Cardinals Get By Nationals, Complete Sweep

Jaime Garcia tossed seven innings of one-run ball as the Cardinals dropped the Nationals 5-2 to complete a three-game sweep at Busch Stadium. Garcia improved to 3-and-0 while Trevor Rosenthal recorded the final out to earn his 20th save. Matt Adams hit a two-run homer and Matt Holliday added a solo shot and drove in two for St. Louis, which has won six out of seven. Adam LaRoche and Jayson Werth each drove in a run for Washington in defeat. Doug Fister fell to 5-and-2 after allowing four runs in six frames as the Nats lost their fourth straight overall since a four-game win streak.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Borgia Freshman Golfer Thomas Alferman. Alferman is a member of the Borgia team that qualified for the state tournament at Silo Ridge in Boliver this week. In the district tournament at the Sullivan Country Club, Thomas shot a 13 over par 84 helping the team to a second place finish.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.

The Cardinals and Royals renew their I-70 rivalry tonight in Kansas City. It's a battle of first-place teams, with Lance Lynn slated to oppose the Royals' Chris Young in the opener of the three-game set. The teams will rematch with three more games at Busch Stadium in mid-June.
