Cardinals Fall In Grapefruit Finale

The Marlins scored five times in the top of the eighth inning to sink the Cardinals 6-4 in the Grapefruit League finale for St. Louis. Daniel Descalso was 1-for-3 with an RBI while Jon Jay was 1-for-2 with a run scored in the loss. Michael Wacha allowed one run in five innings with six strikeouts in the no decision. Scott McGregor fell to 0-and-2.

The St. Louis Cardinals have their final tuneup tonight before the regular season starts. The Cards clash with their Triple-A affiliate, the Memphis Redbirds, in Tennessee. Gates open at 4:30 p.m., and the first five-thousand fans get a 2014 magnet schedule. Cards batting practice begins at 4:45 with the game scheduled to begin at 6:35. The regular season starts Monday in Cincinnati against the Reds.

A.J. Pierzynski appears to have found a new home. The catcher is expected to join the St. Louis Cardinals according to the "Post-Dispatch." Pierzynski was released by the Boston Red Sox a few weeks ago. The Cards are expected to be without Yadier Molina for another six-to-ten weeks after thumb surgery. The 37-year-old Pierzynski hit .254 with four homers in 72 games with Boston prior to his departure.
