Cardinals Extend Mozeliak, Matheny

The St. Louis Cardinals are extending the contracts of General Manager John Mozeliak and manager Mike Matheny. Mozeliak has been given a three-year extension through 2016, while the Cardinals have picked up the 2014 option on Matheny. Mozeliak was in the final year of his deal. He's been the Cardinals' GM since 2007. Matheny is entering his second season as skipper after replacing the retired Tony La Russa following the 2011 World Series.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is 6-0 Senior Forward Megan Jensen with the St. Francis Borgia Girls Basketball Team. Megan scored 24 points leading Borgia to a 52-47 win over Cardinal Ritter in the championship game of the Borgia/Competitive Edge Tournament Saturday afternoon. In three tournament games last week. Megan scored 63 points and earned MVP honors.

When our daughter turned 13, as part of her birthday celebration we drove 13 seventh-grade girls to the mall. As one of the drivers, I can attest that a vanload of young adolescent girls generates plenty of chatter...and plenty of drama.

The Blues piled up three first period goals as they knocked off the Panthers, 5-3 at the BB&T Center. David Backes, Jaden Schwartz, and Robby Fabbri all scored in the final eight minutes of the first period to put St. Louis up for good. Brian Elliott had 29 saves in the win. Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and assist for the Panthers, who have lost three of four. Roberto Luongo gave up three goals on 13 shots before getting pulled.
