Cardinals, Dodgers Take 1-0 Series Leads

The Cardinals and Dodgers have taken leads in their respective National League Division Series. Carlos Beltran belted a three-run homer to jump start a seven-run third inning as the Cardinals crushed the Pirates 9-1 in Game One of their NLDS at Busch Stadium. Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run homer and Clayton Kershaw fired seven innings of one-run ball with 12 strikeouts as the Dodgers beat the Braves 6-1 in Atlanta.

All eight playoff teams will be in action on Friday. The Pirates and Cards play Game Two in St. Louis followed by the Tampa Bay Rays and Red Sox opening their American League Division Series in Boston. The Dodgers and Braves will battle in Game Two in Atlanta, while the Detroit Tigers take on the Oakland Athletics in Game One of their ALDS in the final contest of the night.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

Washington Post 218 improved to 16-1 overall and 11-1 in the 9th district with a doubleheader sweep of O'Fallon Sunday at Ronsick Field. In game one, Washington jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first inning on route to an 11-4 win. Matt Miller made it stand with a complete game three hitter with 13 strike outs and three walks. Justin Baylard doubled twice and Ross Seitter had a pair of singles.
Game two final 7-1.
