Cardinals Cruise By Brewers

Matt Holliday scored three times and smacked a two-run home run to help the Cardinals crush the Brewers, 10-1. Allen Craig knocked in four runs and scored once for St. Louis, which has won six games in-a-row. Jon Jay and Shane Robinson also touched home twice in the win. Jaime Garcia gave up eight hits and the lone run as he moved to 4-and-1.

The Cardinals get today off, then open a two-game series against the Cubs at Wrigley Field beginning tomorrow. St. Louis has won six straight games and is atop the NL Central at 20-and-11. Lance Lynn gets the start Tuesday.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Union Post 297 Senior American Legion Baseball Player Trey Fink. Earlier this season in a game against St. Peters, Trey pitched a complete game with 11 strike outs and no walks in an 8-1 win. He also went the distance in a tough luck 6-1 loss to Washington. He only gave up four hits with 13 strike outs and one walk. Time and again, Trey has proven his ability to go deep into games.

Over the course of the past 16 years doing commentary on air and in print, there have sadly been many mass shootings and many predictable politicized reactions.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

It involved race, and it was done it a church.

The Washington Seniors played two games Sunday and finished 1-1 for the day. Post 218 thrashed Pacific 29-4 with Mitch Barrow posting five hits. In the second game, Washington lost to Warrenton 4-3 at Warrenton High School. Ben Stephens pitched a complete game with nine strike outs and five walks to post the win. The game was tied at two after the first inning.
