Cardinals Clip Dodgers

Matt Carpenter hit an RBI single in the seventh to give the Cardinals the lead as they defeated the Dodgers, 5-3. Shelby Miller tossed five-and-a-third innings of three-run ball for the Cardinals, who have won four-of-five. Seth Maness picked up the win while Edward Mujica secured his 14th save. The Cards open a series at Kansas City this afternoon.

Starting pitcher John Gast was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain before Sunday's game. Gast is the fourth member of the Redbirds' pitching staff to land on the DL this month alone. Also, outfielder Carlos Beltran missed the game due to left shoulder soreness but could be back for the Kansas City series that starts today.

If you want to get someone's attention, whisper. That old investment brokerage ad is the opposite of what is going on regarding shootings in Ferguson and Tower Grove. When people threaten violence or blankly label one as a racist, it's very hard to listen. The same holds true for those who sum up the plight of impoverished black communities as "that's how those people are."
