Cardinals Blank Reds

Adam Wainwright struck out 12 and blanked the Reds for eight innings as the Cardinals won 4-0 from Great American Ball Park. Kolten Wong, Tony Cruz and Allen Craig were each 2-for-4 with an RBI for St. Louis, which has won five of six. Matt Holliday also drove in a run in the win while Wainwright improved to 8-and-2. Mike Leake struck out eight over six innings of two-run ball for the loss. Ryan Ludwick and Zack Cozart both had two hits for Cincinnati, which has lost three of five.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Borgia Freshman Golfer Thomas Alferman. Alferman is a member of the Borgia team that qualified for the state tournament at Silo Ridge in Boliver this week. In the district tournament at the Sullivan Country Club, Thomas shot a 13 over par 84 helping the team to a second place finish.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.

The Cardinals and Royals renew their I-70 rivalry tonight in Kansas City. It's a battle of first-place teams, with Lance Lynn slated to oppose the Royals' Chris Young in the opener of the three-game set. The teams will rematch with three more games at Busch Stadium in mid-June.
