Cardinals Bash Reds

Pete Kozma was 2-for-4 with three RBI as the Cardinals picked up a 9-2 win over the Reds in Cincinnati. David Freese and Jon Jay each collected two RBI for St. Louis, which has won two straight since falling in three out of four. Adam Wainwright improved to 9-and-3 by tossing seven innings of two-run ball with seven strikeouts in the win. Jay Bruce and Shin-Shoo Choo each drove in a run for the Reds, who were just 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position while the Redbirds went 8-for-19. Mike Leake allowed three runs over five innings to fall to 5-and-3 for Cincinnati, which has lost three straight.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Freshman Cross Country Runner Julia McIntyre from New Haven High School. Julia finished sixth in the state meet in Jefferson City with a time of 20:58.40 at the Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City earlier this month. She helped her team to a 12th place finish. Julia was a straight A student at Franklin County R-2 and she continues to get A's in high school.

Scottie Upshall scored the game-winning goal early in the third period to help the Blues slip by the Blue Jackets 3-1 at the Scottrade Center. Vladimir Tarasenko added his 14th goal of the season and Jake Allen made 23 saves to earn the win for St. Louis, which improved to 15-6-and-3. Ryan Johansen tallied the lone goal for Columbus, which had won two straight. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 29 of 31 shots in the loss.
