Blues Zip Up Blue Jackets In OT

David Backes scored 22 seconds into overtime to send the Blues to a 4-3 victory over the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. Chris Stewart tied the game for St. Louis midway through the third while Vladimir Tarasenko [[ tare-uh-SANK-oh ]] had the other two goals for the Blues. Jaroslav Halak made 30 saves for the Blue Notes, who have won three straight. Columbus scored three straight times in the first period. Artem Anisimov, Fedor Tyutin and Ryan Johansen all lit the lamp for the Jackets while Mike McKenna stopped 27 shots. Columbus had won four out of five.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Taylor Covington with the New Haven Track and Field Team. Taylor earned All-State honors medaling in four events at the state track meet at Lincoln University in Jefferson City Friday and Saturday. She ran anchor on the 4X800 relay team that finished in sixth place.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.

Ben Stephens pitched into the ninth inning leading Warrenton to a 5-0 win over Washington at Ronsick Field. Stephens struck out 10 and walked three before leaving the game. Washington loaded the bases in the ninth, but the game was called when heavy rain and lightning moved in. Warrenton scored single runs in the first, sixth, and seventh and added two insurance runs in the ninth.
