Blues Wind Up Preseason

The Blues host the Minnesota Wild tonight at the Scottrade Center. It's the preseason finale for both teams. Minnesota defeated St. Louis 3-1 in Minneapolis on Wednesday. The Blues are 2-and-3 in the preseason and open the regular season on October 3rd against Nashville at home.

The Blues have assigned seven players to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. They include forwards Ty Rattie and Keith Aucoin and goaltender Jake Allen. The training camp roster is down to 25 with 23 players being the maximum when the NHL regular season starts.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Junior Legion Baseball Team. Gus played shortstop and occasionally pitched during the season. His numbers are impressive. Batting average .409, on-base percentage .504 with a slugging percentage of .582. Gus lead the team not only with his average but also in RBI with 26, triples with five and stolen bases with 28.

St. Louis held training camp over the weekend but will be off today before resuming practice tomorrow. Quarterback Sam Bradford practiced on back-to-back days for the first time since suffering his season ending knee injury. St. Louis will put the pads on early this week as they prepare for their preseason contest against the Saints on August 8th.
