Blues Edge Rangers

Kevin Shattenkirk's goal early in the third period stood as the winner for the Blues in a 2-1 win over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Alexander Steen scored the first goal for St. Louis before leaving the game with a lower body injury. David Backes assisted on both goals. Jaroslav Halak saved 34 shots in the victory. The Blues won the second of three games on their current road trip and end it at the New York Islanders on Saturday afternoon.

The St. Louis Blues activated forward Maxim Lapierre from injured reserve on Thursday. Lapierre has been out of action since January 10 with an unspecified lower-body injury. He missed five games before returning to action against the New York Rangers. Prior to the setback the veteran totaled six goals and nine points in 39 games.
