Big East Ok's Catholic 7

The Big East Conference will be moving forward without seven basketball members. ESPN reports the conference will announce today that it has reached a deal with the newly formed Catholic 7. DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's and Villanova will keep the Big East naming rights and play its conference tournament at Madison Square Garden.

The seven schools will leave June 30th and start its new conference July 1st. Butler, Creighton and Xavier are expected to join for the 2013-14 season. Saint Louis and Dayton are also possible members for the 2014-15 season to bring the membership to 12.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Seth Schenck. The New Haven Junior won the state title in the the 800 meter run at Lincoln University in Jefferson City. His time of 1:59.20 set a new school record. Seth also took second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:30.49 and anchored the 4X800 relay team that captured seventh place. Seth also played basketball and ran cross country in his junior year at New Haven.

Lance Lynn tossed six scoreless frames to guide the St. Louis Cardinals to a 7-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a three-game set. Lynn gave up just two hits and struck out nine to pick up the win. David Freese went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBI and Allen Craig added a pair of hits, including a solo homer, and drove in three for the Cardinals, winners in four of their last five games.
