Backes Scores As U.S. Hockey Wins Opener

St. Louis Blues captain David Backes scored a goal and forward T.J. Oshie had two assists as Team USA won its Olympic opener, beating Slovakia 7-1. Backes scored his goal on Blues goaltender Jaroslav Halak in a six-goal second period for the US. Blues defensemen Kevin Shattenkirk also had an assist in the win. Halak had 20 saves on 25 U.S. shots.

He's given up seven runs, three earned over 36 innings and his ERA is .736. As a hitter, Spencer's average is .500 with 14 rbi's and 11 runs scored. In 44 official at bats, Spencer has struck out just five times with two walks.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

It involved race, and it was done it a church.
