Athletics Trample Cardinals

Bartolo Colon gave up a run over eight innings as the Athletics dropped the Cardinals 6-1 in Oakland. Colon improved to 11-and-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.79. Stephen Vogt lifted a solo homer for his first career hit for Oakland, which has won three straight. Seth Smith knocked in two runs for the A's. Matt Holliday was 2-for-3 with a run scored for St. Louis, which has lost five-of-six. Shelby Miller dipped to 8-and-6 after giving up five runs in less than two frames.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Junior Running Back/Defensive Back Jonathan Braun with the St. Francis Borgia Knight Football Team. Braun ran the ball 21 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns in Friday night's 31-19 win over the Union Wildcats, averaging 9.3 yards per carry. He also plays defensive back where he made one tackle.

August 9, 2014, will forever be marked in the history books as the date Michael Brown was shot by a Ferguson police officer.

It is the aftermath of that event, however, which history will forever remember. The protesters, the looters, the agitators, the Hands Up Don't Shoot movement, the dramatic announcement of the grand jury, the buildings up in flames. In the process, the community and image of Ferguson was destroyed.
