Womanly Wars, Libidos and Rebuttals

Audio:

When President Barack Obama gave his State of the Union address Tuesday night, Republicans gave not just one but THREE rebuttals. The official speech was by GOP Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state. Tea party favorites Senators Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky also gave their own respective rebuttals.

Could the GOP have picked a better speaker than Rodgers? Yes. But Rodgers wasn't picked for her rhetorical flourish. She is a woman, and the GOP fears the DNC's War on Women strategy that resulted in the president's re-election. If she's the best the GOP has to put forth the vision, the party had best start looking.

Meanwhile, former governor Mike Huckabee, a potential presidential candidate for 2016, decided to take the War on Women strategy head on--leading to the exact kind of spectacle the DNC wants to elicit. There's something about Huckabee talking so openly about women's libidos that's--well, just plain creepy.

The president's approval numbers are down to 40% not because of political strategy, but because of the issues our nation faces. If conservatives want to stop the leftward shift of this country, it's the issues they need to be talking about.

Just like the proverbial question--"do I look fat in this dress"--is a no win for men, the War on Women strategy is best countered by women. Left, right or center, pretty much any women could have told the governor that talking about uncontrollable female libidos is a really dumb political move.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Union Post 297 Senior American Legion Baseball Player Trey Fink. Earlier this season in a game against St. Peters, Trey pitched a complete game with 11 strike outs and no walks in an 8-1 win. He also went the distance in a tough luck 6-1 loss to Washington. He only gave up four hits with 13 strike outs and one walk. Time and again, Trey has proven his ability to go deep into games.

Over the course of the past 16 years doing commentary on air and in print, there have sadly been many mass shootings and many predictable politicized reactions.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

It involved race, and it was done it a church.
