Washington Senior Legion Baseball

Washington beat Warrenton 11-2 Sunday to improve to 21-9 overall and they finished regular season 9th district play at 13-5.

Washington has a road game this evening against Creve Couer at 5:30 at Parkway Central High School. After tonight's game, Post 218 will prepare for the Blue Springs Wood Bat Tournament Wednesday.

The 9th District post-season tournament gets underway next week with games at Westhoff Park in O'Fallon and the Rec Plex in St. Peters.

Washington Legion Baseball Post 218 AAA continued to pile up the runs on Saturday, scoring six runs in the seventh inning, on the way to a 20-1 landslide win over Pacific at Pacific PYA. Washington scored eight runs in the second inning on a groundout by Spencer Juergens, an error, a two-run single by Noah Borgerding, an RBI single by Hillermann, a two-run single by Aaron Meyer, and an RBI single by Ross Seitter. Justin Schuler boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 2-2 day at the plate to pace Washington. He singled in the fifth inning and doubled in the seventh inning. Pacific couldn't get anything going as long as Mitch Hammack was pitching. Pacific managed just one hit off Hammack, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five during his five innings of work. Ray was charged with the loss. He allowed 12 runs in 4 1/3 innings, walked three and struck out six. Washington never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring one run on a fielder's choice.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Owensville Sophomore Cross Country Runner Carter Bracato. Carter finished 13th in Class 3 with the best time of any local runner at state. He attacked the Oak Hill Golf Club Course in Jefferson City finishing with a time of 16:50.67, leading Owensville to a 6th place finish in the team standings. Carter medalled in several events this season.

"No Justice, No Peace"

Certainly, there was no peace on the streets of Ferguson on the night the grand jury announced it would not indict police officer Darren Wilson for the shooting of Michael Brown.

The images of a city burning were disturbing, saddening and sickening. Every business torched leaves in its wake families who have lost their source of income, and a community that will find it that much harder to rebuild.
