Washington Senior Legion Baseball

Washington remained unbeaten in the 9th District with a 23-3 thrashing of Wentzville at Ronsick Field last night. Jared Walde pitched five innings with two strike outs and two walks to improve to 5-0 on the year. Post 218 is now 20-3 overall and 12-0 in league action. Trent Leimkuehler had three hits including a two run homer in the second inning. Wentzville drops to 4-4 both overall and in district play.

Washington is back in action Friday night with a home game against St. Peters. Game time is 7:00 and it will be broadcast live on KLPW-AM 1220. It will be "Kids Night" at Ronsick Field. Kids 12 and under will receive free ice cream and run the bases after the game.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Union Post 297 Senior American Legion Baseball Player Trey Fink. Earlier this season in a game against St. Peters, Trey pitched a complete game with 11 strike outs and no walks in an 8-1 win. He also went the distance in a tough luck 6-1 loss to Washington. He only gave up four hits with 13 strike outs and one walk. Time and again, Trey has proven his ability to go deep into games.

Over the course of the past 16 years doing commentary on air and in print, there have sadly been many mass shootings and many predictable politicized reactions.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

It involved race, and it was done it a church.

The Washington Seniors played two games Sunday and finished 1-1 for the day. Post 218 thrashed Pacific 29-4 with Mitch Barrow posting five hits. In the second game, Washington lost to Warrenton 4-3 at Warrenton High School. Ben Stephens pitched a complete game with nine strike outs and five walks to post the win. The game was tied at two after the first inning.
