Washington American Legion Baseball

The season is over for the Washington senior legion baseball team. St. Charles held on to beat West 13-12 last night to win the 9th district post-season tournament at Westhoff Park. Washington needed West to win for their season to continue. Post 218 ends the season with a 28-12 record under Manager Mike Gardner. St. Charles, West and Daniel Boone will represent the 9th district in the zone tournament this week. The event will get underway Thursday at Lindenwood University in St. Charles. West and Boone will square off in the play-in game at 5:00. Jefferson City and Hannibal will take the field at 8:00. St. Charles will play the winner of the West/Daniel Boone game Friday at 5:00. The double elimination tournament will run through the weekend.

The junior legion state tournament will be held in Jackson with the action getting underway Thursday. Springfield Glendale will face Jackson at 3:00 in the play-in game, with the winner facing Washington Friday at noon. Sedalia and Eureka will play at 5:30 Thursday evening. The five-team double elimination tournament is scheduled to wrap up Saturday with the extra championship game lined up Sunday, if needed.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is 6-0 Senior Forward Megan Jensen with the St. Francis Borgia Girls Basketball Team. Megan scored 24 points leading Borgia to a 52-47 win over Cardinal Ritter in the championship game of the Borgia/Competitive Edge Tournament Saturday afternoon. In three tournament games last week. Megan scored 63 points and earned MVP honors.
