Wainwright Powers Cardinals Past Phillies

Adam Wainwright tossed eight innings of one-run ball as the Cardinals dropped the Phillies 4-1 at Busch Stadium. Wainwright struck out seven while improving to 10-and-3 and Trevor Rosenthal notched his 21st save. Matt Adams had a pair of sac-flies while Matt Holliday doubled in a run as St. Louis stopped a three-game skid. Cole Hamels had two hits at the plate while pitching seven-and-a-third innings and allowing three runs, two earned. He fell to 2-and-4 while Jimmy Rollins knocked in a run but Philadelphia saw a five-game win streak end.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is State Champion Wrestler Dalton Voyles from Pacific High School. Dalton won the class 3 title at 182 pounds with a 6-2 decision over Zach Courtoise of Kearney Saturday at the University of Missouri-Columbia. It caps off a tremendous season for Dalton with a 56-2 record. Dalton, who is very good on his feet, took control early in the bout in securing the win over Courtoise.

Saint Louis dropped a 78-50 decision to George Mason Saturday night in an Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball matchup at Chaifetz Arena. SLU falls to 11-18 overall and 3-13 in A-10 play, while George Mason improves to 9-19 and 4-12 in the league. The 28-point loss is SLU’s largest margin of defeat at Chaifetz Arena. Davell Roby and Reggie Agbeko tied for team-high honors with 10 points apiece.
