VCU Tops Billikens, 67-56

Saint Louis suffered its second straight defeat Saturday, falling 67-56 at VCU in Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball action. The loss, the first on the road this season for the Billikens, dips their record to 25-4 overall and 12-2 in the A-10. Saint Louis can still clinch the No. 1 seed in the A-10 Championship in Brooklyn with a win in any if its final two regular-season games – at home against Dayton Wednesday and at UMass next Sunday. VCU, which has won 19 in a row at home dating back to last season, improves to 22-7 overall and 10-4 in the league. The Billikens were led in scoring by Jordair Jett, who hit 8 of 14 shots en route to 18 points. Austin McBroom was 3-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line to account for his 11 points. SLU was forced into 17 turnovers, which the Rams turned in to 23 points.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Washington Sophomore Guard Kyra Hardesty. Kyra scored 59 points in a game against Pacific leading the Lady Jays to an 85-80 overtime win over the Lady Indians. She shot 61% from the floor, hit 20-of-33 field goal attempts, seven of 11 beyond the arc and 12-of-15 free throws. For the season, Kyra is averaging 21.4 points, three rebounds, 3.72 assists and 2.24 steals per game.

Michael Del Zotto and Wayne Simmonds scored 1:50 apart during a three-goal third period as the Flyers beat the Blues 3-1 in Philadelphia. Jaden Schwartz opened the scoring in the first period for St. Louis, which slipped to 2-1-and-1 on its five-game road trip. Brian Elliott stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced in defeat. The Blues take on the Maple Leafs tomorrow night in Toronto.
