VCU Tops Billikens, 67-56

Saint Louis suffered its second straight defeat Saturday, falling 67-56 at VCU in Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball action. The loss, the first on the road this season for the Billikens, dips their record to 25-4 overall and 12-2 in the A-10. Saint Louis can still clinch the No. 1 seed in the A-10 Championship in Brooklyn with a win in any if its final two regular-season games – at home against Dayton Wednesday and at UMass next Sunday. VCU, which has won 19 in a row at home dating back to last season, improves to 22-7 overall and 10-4 in the league. The Billikens were led in scoring by Jordair Jett, who hit 8 of 14 shots en route to 18 points. Austin McBroom was 3-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line to account for his 11 points. SLU was forced into 17 turnovers, which the Rams turned in to 23 points.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Garrett Leimkuehler, Sophomore Quarterback for the Hermann Bearcats. Garrett has completed 58% of his passes, 22 of 38 for 441 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also carried the ball 36 times for 371 yards for 13 touchdowns and he is averaging more than 10 yards per carry.

On Saturday, September 6, our family lost a dear friend to a car accident. Listeners know her as Lexi the Impulse Puppy. It surprised us a bit just how much the loss struck us--a tribute to just how much that dog loved us--and just how much we loved that dog. Dogs are not the same as people, but they certainly tap into the very best of us.

The Cardinals used three home runs to beat the Reds 8-4 at Busch Stadium. Tony Cruz launched a three-run dinger in the victory and Kolten Wong added a two-run homer. Randal Grichuk hit a solo shot with Jason Motte earning the win in relief. Michael Wacha grabbed a no-decision with four-and-two-thirds innings of two-run ball as the Cards increased their division lead to three-and-a-half games.
