Shockers Enter NCAA Tourney Perfect

Fred VanVleet tallied 22 points to help the second-ranked Shockers drop Indiana State 83-69 in the final of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The win advances Wichita State to the NCAA Tournament with a perfect 34-and-0 record. They are the first team since UNLV in 1991 to enter March Madness undefeated. This is the third straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the Shockers, who made it to the Final Four as a nine-seed last season. Justin Gant and Manny Arop each had 18 points in the loss. Indiana State ends the regular season 23-and-10 and 12-and-6 in the MVC.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Post 218 Junior American Legion Baseball Team. Gus pitches, plays shortstop and bats third on the Junior Legion team that won the state championship in Blue Springs over the weekend. He posted the save in a 4-3 win over Festus in the title game. His batting average is .400 with 47-rbi and 47 runs scored.

The Washington Post 218 Seniors are headed to state. Washington cruised through the zone 1 tournament capping off their run with a 14-9 win over Moberly in the championship game Sunday afternoon. Washington led by 10 into the bottom of the ninth. Matt Miller was the winning pitcher as Washington improved to 33-3 on the season. Ross Seitter, Aaron Meyer and Nate Hillermann all had two hits apiece. Washington banged out 14 as a team.
