Senior Legion Baseball

Washington Post 218 remained unbeaten in the 9th District with a 12-2 win over the West Jaguars Friday night. Washington banged out 12 hits lead by Jack Kopmann with three and Trent Leimkuehler and Dilan Bollmann with two apiece. Tony Helfrich went the distance giving up two runs on three hits with seven strike outs and no walks. Washington is now 5-2 overall and 5-0 in league play. Ryan Franklin suffered the loss as West drops to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the district.

Washington will play two games Saturday at Ronsick Field. Post 218 will go up against Sullivan at 2:30 and De Soto at 5:00.

Washington will host Eureka Sunday evening at 6:00.

The next broadcast game on KLPW-AM 1220 is Tuesday when Washington travels to St. Charles for a 7:00 game.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Post 218 Junior American Legion Baseball Team. Gus pitches, plays shortstop and bats third on the Junior Legion team that won the state championship in Blue Springs over the weekend. He posted the save in a 4-3 win over Festus in the title game. His batting average is .400 with 47-rbi and 47 runs scored. As a pitcher, he's 5-0 with an ERA of 1.631 and a WHIP of .961.

The Washington Seniors came back to life with a 14-2 route of Manchester Post 208 in the loser's bracket of the state tournament in Sedalia Friday afternoon. Matt Miller pitched a complete game for the win, as Washington improved to 35-4. The victory puts Post 218 in the championship game against Fike-Blue Springs today.
