Pirates Upend Reds, Move To NLDS

Russell Martin hit a pair of solo homers and the Pirates went on to a 6-2 win over the Reds in the NL Wild Card Game at PNC Park. Marlon Byrd also homered and drove in two while Andrew McCutchen finished 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run. Francisco Liriano tossed seven innings of one-run ball to grab the win for Pittsburgh which will face the NL Central champion St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Divisional Series starting Thursday. Johnny Cueto allowed four runs in three-and-a-third innings to take the loss for Cincinnati. Shin-Soo Choo hit a solo homer and Ryan Ludwick went 3-for-4 in the loss, which ends the Reds' season.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Junior Running Back/Defensive Back Jonathan Braun with the St. Francis Borgia Knight Football Team. Braun ran the ball 21 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns in Friday night's 31-19 win over the Union Wildcats, averaging 9.3 yards per carry. He also plays defensive back where he made one tackle.

August 9, 2014, will forever be marked in the history books as the date Michael Brown was shot by a Ferguson police officer.

It is the aftermath of that event, however, which history will forever remember. The protesters, the looters, the agitators, the Hands Up Don't Shoot movement, the dramatic announcement of the grand jury, the buildings up in flames. In the process, the community and image of Ferguson was destroyed.

The Kansas City Chiefs rested all of their regulars and still finished the preseason unbeaten. Chase Daniel threw a touchdown pass and the Chiefs beat the St. Louis Rams 24-17 on Thursday night. Kansas City (4-0) was perfect for the first time since 1969, the season the franchise won its lone Super Bowl title. Isaiah Pead rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown for the Rams (0-4).
