Orioles Throttle Cardinals

J.J. Hardy hit two homers and drove in four runs as the Orioles cruised past the Cardinals 12-2 at Camden Yards. Manny Machado hit a three-run dinger in the win while Adam Jones and Chris Davis added solo shots. Ryan Flaherty clubbed a two-run jack and Nick Hundley collected three hits for Baltimore, which has won five of six. Chris Tillman improved to 9-and-5. Justin Masterson was pulled after two-plus innings, giving up five runs on seven hits to fall to 1-and-1. A.J. Pierzynski hit a two-run homer for the Cardinals, who have dropped two of their last three.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Post 218 Junior American Legion Baseball Team. Gus pitches, plays shortstop and bats third on the Junior Legion team that won the state championship in Blue Springs over the weekend. He posted the save in a 4-3 win over Festus in the title game. His batting average is .400 with 47-rbi and 47 runs scored. As a pitcher, he's 5-0 with an ERA of 1.631 and a WHIP of .961.

The Washington Seniors came back to life with a 14-2 route of Manchester Post 208 in the loser's bracket of the state tournament in Sedalia Friday afternoon. Matt Miller pitched a complete game for the win, as Washington improved to 35-4. The victory puts Post 218 in the championship game against Fike-Blue Springs today.
