Nats Bounce Cards

The Nationals scored two runs on a wild pitch and error in the seventh inning to grab a 3-1 win over the Cardinals in the second of four games at Nationals Park. St. Louis finished the game with three errors. Anthony Rendon hit a solo home run for Washington, which improved to 10-and-7. Gio Gonzalez struck out seven and allowed one-run across seven innings to grab his third win. Rafael Soriano nailed down his fourth save. Mark Ellis drove in the only run for the Cards. Michael Wacha took the loss despite only one of the three runs in his seven innings being earned. St. Louis is also 10-and-7.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Junior Legion Baseball Team. Gus played shortstop and occasionally pitched during the season. His numbers are impressive. Batting average .409, on-base percentage .504 with a slugging percentage of .582. Gus lead the team not only with his average but also in RBI with 26, triples with five and stolen bases with 28.

There are few things more inspiring in life than watching an octogenarain with two hip replacements swimming a 200 yard race, or guys in their late 70's playing some pretty vigorous 3 on 3 basketball. A generation of baby boomers is learning that, while they can't reverse age, they certainly can embrace life!

Adam Wainwright is still the ace of the St. Louis Cardinals with John Lackey now in the fold. The Cardinals bolstered their rotation by acquiring Lackey from the Boston Red Sox Thursday to join forces with Wainwright, who gets the start Friday in the
opener of an important three-game series versus the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals also added starter Justin Masterson from Cleveland on Wednesday.
