Matheny: Saturday Starter Could Come Via Trade

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny stated yesterday that their starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Brewers could be somebody who isn't on the roster. While the club is tossing around the options of calling up a player from the minors and dipping into their bullpen, Matheny said that it all comes down to if anything happens externally. St. Louis has previously expressed interest in trading for Tampa Bay southpaw David Price before tomorrow's trade deadline. The Cards have also been linked to the Phillies' Cole Hamels and the Red Sox' Jon Lester.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Swimmer Michael Matthews from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Michael medalled in two events at the state swim meet at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. He took 7th in the 50-Yard Freestyle and 4th in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Michael also medalled in four events in the AAA Conference meet, helping Borgia secure the conference title.

Max Pacioretty scored twice on his 26th birthday as the Canadiens cruised to a 4-1 win over the Blues at the Bell Centre. Vladimir Tarasenko scored the lone goal in the first period for St. Louis, which fell to 0-and-2 on its four-game road trip. Jake Allen allowed all four goals on 30 shots in the setback. The Blues skate in Ottawa tomorrow.
