Martinez Lifts Kings To Double-OT Win Over Rangers, Stanley Cup

Alec Martinez put away a rebound with just over five minutes left in double-overtime to send the Kings to a 3-2 win over the Rangers, giving Los Angeles the Stanley Cup. The Kings won the series 4-1 to claim Lord Stanley's Cup for the second time in three seasons. Marian Gaborik tied the score at two with a power-play goal in the third period. Justin Williams won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs and scored his ninth goal of the postseason in the first period. Jonathan Quick stood tall to make 28 saves for the Kings. Chris Kreider and Brian Boyle each scored in the second period for New York, which was aiming for its first championship since 1994. Henrik Lundqvist made 48 saves in defeat.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Taylor Covington with the New Haven Track and Field Team. Taylor earned All-State honors medaling in four events at the state track meet at Lincoln University in Jefferson City Friday and Saturday. She ran anchor on the 4X800 relay team that finished in sixth place.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.
