Baseball...
Holt 6 Washington 3. The Jays took the lead with three runs in the third inning, but Holt came back with three in the fourth, then took a 5-3 lead in the fifth on a two run homer by Austin Bennett and added an insurance run in the sixth. Washington loaded the bases in the seventh, but failed to score and the game ended when Matt McGilvray was called out at home trying to score on a wild pitch. Matt Miller suffered the loss and Evan Daly was the winner. Washington drops to 11-10 overall and ends conference at 3-5 while Holt improves to 15-8 and 4-4.

Pacific 4 St. Clair 0. Cheyenne Jennings scored twice and Kate Cookson and Amber Zurliene added one apiece.
Washington 3 Holt 1. Cassidy Nurnberger, Martha Noelker and Brianna Pagan all scored and Halee Nurnberger finished with two assists.

District Golf...
Washington hosted Class 4 District 4 a Wolf Hollow...
Timberland took first place with a 318. Washington was second with a 320. Both advance to the sectional. Brad Carpenter was the individual championship with a four under par 67. Carpenter will be joined at the sectional by teammates Matt Hoemann, Hunter Mahon, Eric Hasenjaeger and Sebastian Hommes

Warrenton hosted Class 3 District 3 at Innsbrook Resort. 10 teams were in the competition. Warrenton took fourth with a 345. MICDS was first with a 321. Three Warrenton golfers qualified for the sectional....

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Junior Legion Baseball Team. Gus played shortstop and occasionally pitched during the season. His numbers are impressive. Batting average .409, on-base percentage .504 with a slugging percentage of .582. Gus lead the team not only with his average but also in RBI with 26, triples with five and stolen bases with 28.

There are few things more inspiring in life than watching an octogenarain with two hip replacements swimming a 200 yard race, or guys in their late 70's playing some pretty vigorous 3 on 3 basketball. A generation of baby boomers is learning that, while they can't reverse age, they certainly can embrace life!

Shelby Miller and three relievers combined on a three-hitter as the Cardinals beat the Padres 6-2 to avoid a three-game sweep from Petco Park. Miller improved to 8-and-8 after throwing six innings of two-run ball. Oscar Taveras hit a two-run homer, and Matt Holiday drove in pair of runs in the victory. St. Louis roughed up rookie Odrisamer Despaigne for six runs on nine hits in five-and-two-thirds innings.
