Crimson Rugby

The Crimson rugby team went 1-1 in the MoRugby Championships this past weekend in Forest Park to finish in second place. In Saturday's victory over the Bombers the Crimson came back from a 17-5 halftime deficit to score three tries and shutout the Bombers in the second half for a 20-17 victory. Scoring tries for the Crimson were Nick Bates, Mike Curtis, Steve Bleckman, and Mike Compton.

In Saturdays championship match there was no comeback for the Crimson as the Royals jumped out to an early lead and went in to halftime leading 33-5. The Crimson were shorthanded with injuries from Saturdays match. The final score was 57-17.

The weekend ended a strong run by the Crimson who won three straight league matches to qualify for the championships and then won their fourth in a row on Saturday.

The Crimson will be back in action Saturday in Columbia.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Allison Hinson with the St. Clair Track and Field Team. Allison won state in the Class 4 Shot Put with a distance of 47-feet-three and three quarter inches in the state track championships at Lincoln University in Jefferson City Friday. Allison will continue her throwing career at Illinois State University. She has also been an honor role student throughout her high school career.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.
