Cards Crush Reds

Matt Adams smacked a two-run homer as the Cardinals crushed the Reds 15-2 in the rubber match of a weekend series at Great American Ball Park. David Freese and Tony Cruz added solo homers and drove in two runs apiece for the Redbirds, who have won three-of-four since a seven-game skid. Lance Lynn struck out 11 over eight innings of two-run ball as he improved to 13-and-5. The Cards start a four-game series with the Dodgers tonight.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Swimmer Michael Matthews from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Michael medalled in two events at the state swim meet at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. He took 7th in the 50-Yard Freestyle and 4th in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Michael also medalled in four events in the AAA Conference meet, helping Borgia secure the conference title.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished with a flurry to hand Saint Louis its first loss of the season Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena. The Islanders went on a 13-4 run during the game’s final 3:18 to turn a 52-49 deficit into a 62-56 victory. Ash Yacoubou, who led SLU with 13 points, hit a layup to give the Billikens a 52-49 lead with 4:39 remaining. But the Islanders promptly scored 10 unanswered points to grab the contest by the throat.
