Cards Cruise Past Cubs

Matt Holliday lifted a solo homer and knocked in two runs to help the Cardinals crush the Cubs 6-1 in St. Louis. Allen Craig also drove in two runs for St. Louis, which took three-of-four in the series. Yadier Molina scored twice in the win. Lance Lynn improved to 10-and-1 after allowing one run in six innings. Scott Feldman dipped to 6-and-6 after giving up five runs in five-and-a-third frames. Welington Castillo was 3-for-4 with a solo shot for Chicago, which has lost four-of-five. The Cards start a three-game set with Texas tonight while the Cubs begin a three-game set with Houston today.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Borgia Freshman Golfer Thomas Alferman. Alferman is a member of the Borgia team that qualified for the state tournament at Silo Ridge in Boliver this week. In the district tournament at the Sullivan Country Club, Thomas shot a 13 over par 84 helping the team to a second place finish.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.

The Royals could have played with just two players and been fine in a 5-0 shutout of the Cardinals from Kauffman Stadium. Chris Young fired six innings of six-hit ball to improve to 4-and-0. Young walked two and struck out two as the Royals picked up their fourth straight win. Kendrys Morales took care of the offense with a five RBI night. Morales belted a three-run and a two-run home run in the first and third innings.
