Barry Zito tossed seven innings of three-hit ball to help the Giants blank the Cardinals, 1-0. It was the home opener at AT&T Park for the defending World Series champions. Angel Pagan drew a bases-loaded walk to score Gregor Blanco in the bottom of the fourth for the game's lone run. Sergio Romo locked up his third save of the year for San Francisco, which improved to 3-and-1 on the season. Jake Westbrook threw six-and-two-thirds frames of one-run ball to suffer the tough-luck loss for St. Louis. Allen Craig had two of the three hits for the Cards, who fell to 1-and-3.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Borgia Freshman Golfer Thomas Alferman. Alferman is a member of the Borgia team that qualified for the state tournament at Silo Ridge in Boliver this week. In the district tournament at the Sullivan Country Club, Thomas shot a 13 over par 84 helping the team to a second place finish.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.

The Royals could have played with just two players and been fine in a 5-0 shutout of the Cardinals from Kauffman Stadium. Chris Young fired six innings of six-hit ball to improve to 4-and-0. Young walked two and struck out two as the Royals picked up their fourth straight win. Kendrys Morales took care of the offense with a five RBI night. Morales belted a three-run and a two-run home run in the first and third innings.
