Cardinals Hold Off Rockies

Edward Mujica struck out Rockies first baseman Todd Helton with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to preserve a 4-3 win for the Cardinals. Mujica locked up his 37th save for St. Louis, which has won three-of-four overall. Adam Wainwright struck out eight over seven-and-two-thirds innings of three run ball for his 17th win. Wainwright was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI to help his cause. The series ends today.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Taylor Covington with the New Haven Track and Field Team. Taylor earned All-State honors medaling in four events at the state track meet at Lincoln University in Jefferson City Friday and Saturday. She ran anchor on the 4X800 relay team that finished in sixth place.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.

In Senior Legion Baseball...
Washington improved to 2-0 with a 2-1 win over Creve Coeur at Ronsick Field. Matt Miller scored the winning run on a sac fly in foul ground off the bat of Matt McGilvray in the bottom of the seventh inning. The left fielder made a spectacular catch, but Miller tagged up and headed home with the winning run. Spencer Juergens was the winning pitcher.
