Cardinals' Garcia Set For Season-Ending Surgery

Cardinals pitcher Jaime Garcia is set to have season-ending surgery. According to the "Post-Dispatch," the southpaw will have surgery Friday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Garcia is 5-and-2 with a 3.58 ERA in nine starts this season, but was placed on the 15-day disabled list this past weekend. Garcia is expected to be healthy in time for next season.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Garrett Leimkuehler, Sophomore Quarterback for the Hermann Bearcats. Garrett has completed 58% of his passes, 22 of 38 for 441 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. He has also carried the ball 36 times for 371 yards for 13 touchdowns and he is averaging more than 10 yards per carry.

On Saturday, September 6, our family lost a dear friend to a car accident. Listeners know her as Lexi the Impulse Puppy. It surprised us a bit just how much the loss struck us--a tribute to just how much that dog loved us--and just how much we loved that dog. Dogs are not the same as people, but they certainly tap into the very best of us.

The ECC Volleyball Falcons (6-6) were able to win a tight match against Missouri Baptist JV by scores of 25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17 on Saturday. Another match in the Saturday home competition was against the undefeated NJCAA DI Indian Hills Warriors from Ottumwa, IA. The Falcons played a very tight first set losing 22-25, but couldn’t muster the offensive fire power to stay in the match during the later sets.
