Cardinals Drop Braves

Matt Carpenter went 2-for-4 with two RBI as the Cardinals edged the Braves 4-3 in Atlanta last night. Shelby Miller allowed two runs over five innings to improve to 4-and-2 while Trevor Rosenthal survived a scare in the ninth for his ninth save. St. Louis has won three out of five.

The Cardinals continue their three-game series with the Braves in Atlanta tonight. Tyler Lyons takes the mound for St. Louis looking for his first win against two losses. The Braves counter with Gavin Floyd, who's making his 2014 debut. First pitch from Turner Field is set for 6:10.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Junior Legion Baseball Team. Gus played shortstop and occasionally pitched during the season. His numbers are impressive. Batting average .409, on-base percentage .504 with a slugging percentage of .582. Gus lead the team not only with his average but also in RBI with 26, triples with five and stolen bases with 28.

Adam Wainwright is still the ace of the St. Louis Cardinals with John Lackey now in the fold. The Cardinals bolstered their rotation by acquiring Lackey from the Boston Red Sox Thursday to join forces with Wainwright, who gets the start Friday in the
opener of an important three-game series versus the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals also added starter Justin Masterson from Cleveland on Wednesday.
