Cardinals Clip Nationals

Shelby Miller tossed six-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball to push the Cardinals to a 4-1 victory over the Nationals at Busch Stadium. Miller grabbed the no-decision with Randy Choate picked up the win. Trevor Rosenthal earned his 19th save. Matt Adams went deep in the win while Allen Craig added a RBI for the Cardinals, who have won five of six. Stephen Strasburg fell to 6-and-5 after surrendering three runs over six-and-two-thirds for Washington, which has dropped three straight. Jayson Werth drove in the lone run in the loss.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Washington Sophomore Guard Kyra Hardesty. Kyra scored 59 points in a game against Pacific leading the Lady Jays to an 85-80 overtime win over the Lady Indians. She shot 61% from the floor, hit 20-of-33 field goal attempts, seven of 11 beyond the arc and 12-of-15 free throws. For the season, Kyra is averaging 21.4 points, three rebounds, 3.72 assists and 2.24 steals per game.

Michael Del Zotto and Wayne Simmonds scored 1:50 apart during a three-goal third period as the Flyers beat the Blues 3-1 in Philadelphia. Jaden Schwartz opened the scoring in the first period for St. Louis, which slipped to 2-1-and-1 on its five-game road trip. Brian Elliott stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced in defeat. The Blues take on the Maple Leafs tomorrow night in Toronto.
