California Chrome Wins Kentucky Derby

Strong favorite California Chrome pulled away down the stretch Saturday to win
the 140th Kentucky Derby. Ridden by Victor Espinoza and known for his runaway
wins, California Chrome overtook Uncle Sigh and Chitu at the top of the stretch and easily held off the rest of the 19-horse field. The 1 3/4-length victory over longshot Commanding Curve was the horse's fifth in a row. Danza finished third.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Freshman Basketball Player Cassidy Moss from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Cassidy was named the Most Valuable Player of the Sullivan Tournament last week and was an important part of Borgia's run to the title. She is averaging 15 points and 2.5 rebounds, more than three assists and two steals per game.
