Beltran Helps Cards Crush Mets

Carlos Beltran went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI as the Cardinals crushed the Mets 10-4 at Busch Stadium. Jon Jay also homered for St. Louis, which built a 9-0 lead in the fifth inning. Filling in for Jake Westbrook, John Gast pitched five shutout innings before giving up a four-spot in the sixth to win his big league debut.

The Cardinals and Mets play the third of their four-game series at Busch Stadium tonight. Shelby Miller puts his 5-and-2 mark on the line for St. Louis, while New York counters with 0-and-3 Shaun Marcum. Miller is coming off a complete-game, one-hitter in which he struck out 13 and walked none in a 3-0 victory over the Rockies last Friday.

Missouri State's Nathan Scheer was one of nearly 900 men's college basketball players recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches with the release of the 2013-14 NABC Honors Court. To be recognized on the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior varsity player with a cumulative 3.20 grade point average or higher at the conclusion of the season.
