American Legion Baseball

The junior legion state tournament gets underway today in Jackson with two games. Springfield-Glendale will go up against host Jackson at 3:00, followed by Sedalia and Eureka at 5:30. Washington will see action Friday at 12:00 against the winner of the Springfield/Jackson game. The double elimination tournament will run through the weekend.

In senior legion action, the zone 1 tournament begins this evening at Lindenwood University in St. Charles with two games. Daniel Boone and play West at 5:00 with Jefferson City going up against Hannibal at 8:00. St. Charles will play Friday against the winner from the Daniel Boone/West game. The tournament will run through Sunday.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Washington Sophomore Guard Kyra Hardesty. Kyra scored 59 points in a game against Pacific leading the Lady Jays to an 85-80 overtime win over the Lady Indians. She shot 61% from the floor, hit 20-of-33 field goal attempts, seven of 11 beyond the arc and 12-of-15 free throws. For the season, Kyra is averaging 21.4 points, three rebounds, 3.72 assists and 2.24 steals per game.
