The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Washington Senior Guard Brad Carpenter. It was a good first week to the season for Carpenter who was named the Most Valuable Player in the Gold Division of the Borgia/Pepsi Thanksgiving Tournament. He scored 54 points over three games, including 20 against Borgia in the Gold Title game Saturday night. Another highlight for the week....eight three pointers and 26 points against O'Fallon Christian. Brad will attend Missouri State University in Springfield on a golf scholarship.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Junior Running Back/Defensive Back Jonathan Braun with the St. Francis Borgia Knight Football Team. Braun ran the ball 21 times for 195 yards and two touchdowns in Friday night's 31-19 win over the Union Wildcats, averaging 9.3 yards per carry. He also plays defensive back where he made one tackle.

August 9, 2014, will forever be marked in the history books as the date Michael Brown was shot by a Ferguson police officer.

It is the aftermath of that event, however, which history will forever remember. The protesters, the looters, the agitators, the Hands Up Don't Shoot movement, the dramatic announcement of the grand jury, the buildings up in flames. In the process, the community and image of Ferguson was destroyed.

The Cardinals are back home tonight to open a nine-game homestand at Busch Stadium. They host the Nationals in the first of three games at 7:15 p.m. John Lackey is slated to oppose Washington's Gio Gonzalez. The Cards also play the Pirates and Cubs on this homestand.
