Blake Pickard

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Junior Legion Baseball Player Blake Pickard from Union Post 297. Blake has had a good season sporting a .360 average, but really caught fire in July batting .450. He leads in the team with seven doubles, 15rbi, 11 walks and just four strike outs in 105 plate appearances. Blake is also hitting .378 with runners in scoring position. Blake is used in the outfield and behind the plate and is very good at both. He has good speed which allows him to track down fly balls in the outfield and he has thrown out several runners on base. Blake attends Union High School.

It came as a shock to a lot of people to find out that the contract for the Union license office, which has been operated by the Union Chamber of Commerce since the 1970's, was being turned over to a for-profit company based out of Jefferson City.

What happened? It's a classic case of two all-too-common phenomena in the world of government--unintended consequences and the revolving door.
