Wednesday Night Storm Damage

Damage Report from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department

The majority of the damage was in the Sullivan area. One trailer in Jurgens trailer Court just east of Sullivan near I-44 was destroyed. A second trailer was turned over and a third trailer was slightly moved off its foundation. There were also numerous power lines down and a large Billboard near the trailer court was destroyed. There were also numerous trees down along Highway 185. The Transmit tower for Sullivan Fire was also bent in half.

Villa Ridge is without power with numerous lines down. There were several trees across Highway V blocking the roadway. A tree had fallen into a house along the old Highway 100. We were told the house was unoccupied but were unable to assess the damage due to power lines being down we were unable to get close enough to view the house.

There was a tree down on Coleman Road in Gray Summit and there were several trees down along Mill Hill Road South of St. Clair. Franklin County Sheriff’s Communications went down during the height of the storm including 911. Those calls were routed to Jefferson County. The system was down for a little over an hour but is back up and running. The Sheriff’s Office is located along Hwy V where there were several trees and lines down as mentioned above. Communications runs off of a generator that was in operation. Examination of the system this morning indicates that the outage was caused by a blown Generator circuit feeding the command center at the Union Sherriff’s office causing the 911 equipment and Radio equipment to lose power, possibly from a lightning strike.

There are few things more inspiring in life than watching an octogenarain with two hip replacements swimming a 200 yard race, or guys in their late 70's playing some pretty vigorous 3 on 3 basketball. A generation of baby boomers is learning that, while they can't reverse age, they certainly can embrace life!
