Washington Man Taken Into Custody After Stealing Car (update)

The Franklin County Sheriff’s department is asking for your help finding a suspect who stole a vehicle out of the Lonedell area. A woman called the sheriff’s department around 6:oo this morning after seeing someone breaking into her vehicle. Just prior to deputies arrival the suspect was able to start the vehicle and fled. Deputies chased the subject to Elmwood Church. A deputy was at that position with road spikes. When the subject saw the deputy he crashed in to a tree and fled on foot. Deputies are currently searching for the subject described as a white male. At the time he fled he was wearing dark pants or sweat pants, orange hoodie and a gray sweatshirt tied around his waist. Deputies searching the area located an orange hoodie in the area. It is believed that this may have been the third subject who fled during the arrest attempt on Hwy 47.

The sheriff’s Department has found the suspect. A K-9 was brought in from Jefferson County along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Air Unit. Deputies located one shirt under a log. The other shirt was observed from the air. A short time later, the subject was observed moving by a deputy on the ground and deputies in the air in the area where the subject fled. The subject again attempted to flee but stopped and surrendered when he observed other deputies coming in his direction. He is identified as David Utz, a white male, age 36 from Washington who had an active warrant for his arrest for felony drug charges.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Volleyball Player Jordan Kriete from St. Francis Borgia Regional High School in Washington. Jordan played all the way around on a team that finished the season 26-7-2. Her statistics are impressive.

When people threaten violence or blankly label one as a racist, it's very hard to listen. The same holds true for those who sum up the plight of impoverished black communities as "that's how those people are."

The St. Louis Cardinals are exercising the 2015 option on pitcher John Lackey. The 36-year-old right-hander will earn the league minimum 500-thousand-dollars after making 15.25-million each of the last three seasons. Lackey was acquired from Boston at the trade deadline and his contract had a clause allowing for a league-minimum option after missing the entire 2012 season due to elbow surgery.
