Union City Main Street Reconstruction

The Union Main Street reconstruction project is behind schedule. Originally, the $2.2million work started on the west end, near Springfield Ave. and will run all the way to Highway 47. Business owners are concerned because the holiday shopping season is nearly here. City engineer, Jonathon Zimmerman, says those businesses will remain open throughout the project. Work includes new pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and lighting in certain locations. City leaders are working with the contractor in an effort to alleviate some of the concerns of business owners.

What happened? It's a classic case of two all-too-common phenomena in the world of government--unintended consequences and the revolving door.
