Twinkie Prices Skyrocket on Ebay

In the immediate aftermath of the announcement Friday by Hostess Brands, Inc. that it is closing all of its plants, the prices of Twinkies and other Hostess fare skyrocketed on EBay.

As of late Friday afternoon, one seller had already received bids of $16 a box, with 19 hours remaining to bid. The market Buy It Now price for a ten-Twinkie box was hovering around $20. Another Ebay item listed was "10 boxes of Twinkies Fresh Off the Hostess Truck" had a Buy It Now price of $500--or $25 a box. One very hopeful seller, apparently waiting for a huge spike in demand, posted a single box of Twinkies for $100.

Hostess Bakeries, Inc. made the decision to close for good on Friday, after warning union employees that the financially troubled company could not weather a prolonged strike. Roughly 18,000 workers have already lost their jobs or will do so once the last remaining Hostess products are delivered to stores.

Those in need of their Twinkie, Ding-Dong or Ho-Ho fix most likely will not have to quit cold turkey forever. Industry analysts say it is most likely the brand names and recipes will be purchased by other companies and back on the supermarket shelves in the near future.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Union Post 297 Senior American Legion Baseball Player Trey Fink. Earlier this season in a game against St. Peters, Trey pitched a complete game with 11 strike outs and no walks in an 8-1 win. He also went the distance in a tough luck 6-1 loss to Washington. He only gave up four hits with 13 strike outs and one walk. Time and again, Trey has proven his ability to go deep into games.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

It involved race, and it was done it a church.
