Teen Driver Safety Week

National Teen Driver Safety Week starts this Sunday. Officials say drivers should cut out distractions such as cell phones, follow traffic laws, not drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol and wear seat belts. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for American teenagers. Missouri recorded 64 traffic deaths of people 15 to 19 years old last year, with 81 percent of the victims not wearing seat belts.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Washington Varsity Soccer Goalie Camron Shipley. Camron made countless saves in Washington's 1-0 win over Borgia Saturday night at Jim Scanlan Stadium at Washington High School. The game was scoreless through regulation and two overtimes and Shipley only gave up one goal in the shootout. Camron is a senior and this is his first year playing soccer.

If you want to get someone's attention, whisper. That old investment brokerage ad is the opposite of what is going on regarding shootings in Ferguson and Tower Grove. When people threaten violence or blankly label one as a racist, it's very hard to listen. The same holds true for those who sum up the plight of impoverished black communities as "that's how those people are."
