Scott AFB Could Face Cuts

The St. Louis region's largest employer is bracing for the impact of planned cuts by the U.S. Air Force. The Air Force is planning to cut more than 22-thousand airmen this year. Spokeswoman Karen Pettit at Scott Air Force Base says over two-thousand airmen at the base in Belleville are eligible for what is called voluntary separation. She says they are also vulnerable to be cut whether or not they want to be. The largest cuts are being planned for security personnel.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Union Post 297 Senior American Legion Baseball Player Trey Fink. Earlier this season in a game against St. Peters, Trey pitched a complete game with 11 strike outs and no walks in an 8-1 win. He also went the distance in a tough luck 6-1 loss to Washington. He only gave up four hits with 13 strike outs and one walk. Time and again, Trey has proven his ability to go deep into games.

Over the course of the past 16 years doing commentary on air and in print, there have sadly been many mass shootings and many predictable politicized reactions.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

It involved race, and it was done it a church.

Local Senior Legion teams are getting ready for the trip to the 2015 Blue Springs Woodbat Tournament. Washington, Union and St. Charles will compete in the event which will run Wednesday through Sunday at the Hidden Valley Athletic Complex.
