Mercy Will Hold Blood Drives

Mercy Hospital Washington works with area schools, churches, businesses and other organizations to collect life-saving blood products from generous donors. Donations provide life support for Mercy patients. Upcoming events include:

The St. John the Baptist Gildehaus Fall Blood Drive, sponsored by the St. John’s Student Council, will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, November 12, in the church’s Gymnasium at 5579 Gildehaus Road in Villa Ridge.

•The Bank of Washington Holiday Blood Drive will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, at the bank at 200 West Main in Washington, in the fourth Floor Conference Room.

• The East Central College Fall Blood Drive sponsored by the ECC Student Nurses. The drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, in the Multipurpose Building Gymnasium, 1964 Prairie Dell Road in Union.

•The Mercy Hospital Washington Co-Worker and Community Blood Drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, November 15, in Classroom A-B on the main level of the Mercy Medical Building North, 851 E. Fifth St. in Washington.

•The St. Clair Community Blood Drive sponsored by St. Clair Elementary. The drive will be held from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, in the St. Clair Elementary School Cafeteria, 895 Bardot Street in St. Clair.

Walk-ins are welcome. Donors with appointments will be given scheduling priority. To register for an appointment, visit https://donateblood.mercy.net. Donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with permission from a parent or legal guardian. Donors must be at least 110 pounds and in good health. All donors should allow eight weeks between donations. All presenting donors will receive a free T-shirt.

Mercy Blood Donor Services is the only mobile, hospital-based, blood collection center in the state of Missouri. Being mobile means bringing services to peoples’ places of business, worship or school. The service allows the hospital to collect life-saving blood supplies from the community, for the community at a portion of the cost. I have been behind the microphone for 10 years now. In the course of time, I have covered many elections and have seen first-hand how bruising and hurtful campaigns can be to people. None have been as difficult to watch, however, as the annexation battle in Washington--which pitted good people who care about their community against good people who care about their community.

St. Francis Borgia is trying to find someone else to play in football Friday night. Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Borgia's scheduled opponent this week, has cancelled the game due to injuries. Borgia Athletic Director Brad Bruns has sent out word across the state that the Knights are looking for a week three opponent.
