Franklin County Deputies Save Suicidal Man

Franklin County Deputies and O’Fallon police teamed up to save the life of a suicidal St. Peters man. O’Fallon police contacted the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department after the man threatened to kill himself and purchased a hand gun to do so. The 30 year old man drove to Fox Creek Rd in Franklin County where he has relatives. Police made contact by phone at which point he made suicidal statements and claimed he was going to shoot anyone that would try to stop him. As deputies arrived the man was riding a four wheeler on Fox Creek Rd at a very high rated speed. He saw the deputies, made a sharp turn and overturned. Deputies recovered a loaded hand gun from his pocket before he was transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment and psychiatric observations.

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Taylor Covington with the New Haven Track and Field Team. Taylor earned All-State honors medaling in four events at the state track meet at Lincoln University in Jefferson City Friday and Saturday. She ran anchor on the 4X800 relay team that finished in sixth place.

Commencement, it is said, is a beginning. Yet graduations are also the end of an era--for students and their parents. For the kids, it's a time of excitement and promise. For parents, it's a bit more bittersweet.

What will the future hold for the Class of 2015? Time will tell.

My youngest has now graduated from high school. Back in 1980, I was the youngest of my family who graduated.

The Union Post 297 Juniors beat Sullivan Post 18 10-3 last night. Logan West was the winning pitcher in relief and Connor Fitzhugh had two hits and three batted in.

Coming up tonight in Senior Legion action, Washington will host Warrenton at Ronsick Field. Game time is 7:00 on KLPW-AM 1220.
