Founder's Day in Union

Founder’s Day in Union is coming up this weekend. Come on out to the city park for a full day of family fun and music on Saturday. The Union Chamber 5 and 10k walk starts at 7:30 on Friday. Then the community is invited to the main pavilion in the city park for the Founders Day celebration on Saturday. The 3 on 3 kids basketball tournament begins at 8:30 and the Miller Light Washer Tournament kicks off at 1pm. Numerous activities are scheduled throughout the day for kids and adults. The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Gus Kleekamp with the Washington Post 218 Junior American Legion Baseball Team. Gus pitches, plays shortstop and bats third on the Junior Legion team that won the state championship in Blue Springs over the weekend. He posted the save in a 4-3 win over Festus in the title game. His batting average is .400 with 47-rbi and 47 runs scored.

The Washington Post 218 Seniors are headed to state. Washington cruised through the zone 1 tournament capping off their run with a 14-9 win over Moberly in the championship game Sunday afternoon. Washington led by 10 into the bottom of the ninth. Matt Miller was the winning pitcher as Washington improved to 33-3 on the season. Ross Seitter, Aaron Meyer and Nate Hillermann all had two hits apiece. Washington banged out 14 as a team.
