Founder's Day in Union

Founder’s Day in Union is coming up this weekend. Come on out to the city park for a full day of family fun and music on Saturday. The Union Chamber 5 and 10k walk starts at 7:30 on Friday. Then the community is invited to the main pavilion in the city park for the Founders Day celebration on Saturday. The 3 on 3 kids basketball tournament begins at 8:30 and the Miller Light Washer Tournament kicks off at 1pm. Numerous activities are scheduled throughout the day for kids and adults. The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Union Post 297 Senior American Legion Baseball Player Trey Fink. Earlier this season in a game against St. Peters, Trey pitched a complete game with 11 strike outs and no walks in an 8-1 win. He also went the distance in a tough luck 6-1 loss to Washington. He only gave up four hits with 13 strike outs and one walk. Time and again, Trey has proven his ability to go deep into games.

Over the course of the past 16 years doing commentary on air and in print, there have sadly been many mass shootings and many predictable politicized reactions.

The shootings at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, however, stands out for two main reasons.

It involved race, and it was done it a church.

The Washington Seniors played two games Sunday and finished 1-1 for the day. Post 218 thrashed Pacific 29-4 with Mitch Barrow posting five hits. In the second game, Washington lost to Warrenton 4-3 at Warrenton High School. Ben Stephens pitched a complete game with nine strike outs and five walks to post the win. The game was tied at two after the first inning.
